Unlike the previous game which had a limited roster of eight that was criticized for "having many clones" in reviews Viva Piñata: Party Animals Colosseum has an upgraded roster of 16 playable characters in the main gameplay modes, including most of the main cast of characters from the original TV series and some new, re-occurring characters in the Life on Piñata Island TV series. There are 70 minigames present and 7 Colosseum Challenges. Players must also compete in these Challenges to earn first place to increase their point count, as the winner gains an extra point for the following minigames until the next Challenge is complete and a new winner is determined.Ī separate mode is enabled to play the minigames and Colosseum Challenges separately, a feature present in the previous game. Challenges include a combat arena battle, a tank arena battle, tank racing, a musical contest, a trivia challenge, a board game, and the P-Factor. Interspersed between the minigames are Colosseum Challenges, longer, more involved minigames with higher stakes and a preparation period before the minigame to choose the elements players will be using. First place receives 3 points, second receives 2 points, and third receives 1 point. Whoever earns the most points is declared the Colosseum Championship winner. Four players enter a series of minigames to try and win first place in order to gain as many points as possible.
